The Courageous Life

Courage

Think carefully about the issue presented in the following quotation from American writer Anais Nin.

“Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one’s courage.”

What is your view about the above statement? Support your stand with examples from your studies or experiences.

Well, I believe that your quote is right. Life is optional in size depending on one’s own courage.

I commented earlier and I feel I should elaborate on what I meant and I agree with you because with courage your living life to the fullest. But, then without courage your living life in a closet so to speak. Not introducing yourself or opening yourself up to ideas and adventures.

I thing this means if you don’t have the courage to stand out for your self, you won’t know whats waiting for you out their.

Erica, that’s exactly right!

I hope that your Bodine experience encourages you to take more academic risks that propel you to open up the door to more opportunities to enrich your life.

Hey Cesar:

I think that you’re right =]

We should have more courage in order to open out eyes to more experiences (out there).

I say that the quote “Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one’s courage.” means that life depends on your courage. If you don’t have courage then life shrinks, if you do have courage life expands.

One example is 7 years ago when i first joined dance class. I was terrified to step foot on stage. But I did because I knew worked to hard (and my mom paid a lot for my outfit, and she said she would kill me if I didnt dance.)
But i danced, and from this day on Ive been performing at Penn’s Landing, Hibachi’s in New York and more. My life expanded because of my courage.

I think the quote, “Life shrinks or expands in porportion to one’s courage” means that if you don’t have enough courage to try new things your life will shrink. In addition, if you have enough courage to try new things your life will expand due to the new experiences you have tried. For example, during my first couple of days at Bodine I didn’t know some of the people there. Since I had the courage to meet and talk to new people I have made some new friends at Bodine and other places. However, if I didn’t have the courage, my life would have shrunk due to the fact that I wouldn’t have made many friends. Therefore, my life has expanded due to the courage I had to make new friends. So, I believe that the quote is correct.

And I think your comment is lovely. Its well-written and spot-on. And thank you for sharing specific examples…

Frederikia:

I know your mother is very proud of you for raising the bar and overcoming your stage fright…in addition to showing off your dance outfit.

And you’re right, your life ‘expanded in a way that allowed you to travel and perform to show off your talents. Godd job!

I THINK THE ABOVE STATEMENT IS TRUE BECAUSE IF YOUR NOT COURAGEOUS ENOUGH TO GO OUT AND FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS NO MATTER WHAT COST IT WONT HAPPEN. NO ONE IS GOING TO BE COURAGEOUS FOR YOU, THEIR GOING TO BE TOO BUSY TRYING TO GET THEIR OWN.

I think that the quote “Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one’s courage” means that to everyone with courage would see life in a different aspect then those who do not. If you have courage you are more open to having more opportunities in life. And having courage beings new experiences into one’s life. Example: If you have the courage and opportunity to do have a new experience at life and you take control of that life seems to expand to you in marvelous ways!

Good job Kobi,

I agree with your thoughts about following one’s own dreams no matter what the costs…
