The Gibbs Gazette

Also Known As…

Posted by: Ms. Gibbs on: October 16, 2008

Last week, we began a very interesting conversation about nicknames…

Honestly, these sorts of conversations are my favorite because I get to know more about you, and the more I hear, the more I like. So I’m going to start this post with a story about some of the funny nicknames I earned in school, and I hope you’ll make me laugh with your stories.

When I was in middle school, some of my classmates noticed (or thought) that I have an unusually long neck, so they began to think of all the animals with long necks.

I was:

Jay-Jay the Giraffe

Ah-Ah the Ostrich and…

Tu-Tu the Turtle

…and the names never really bothered me. In fact, I looked forward to their creativity and laughed at the names myself. It was fun to laugh at myself then and it is fun now. (But try not to make fun of my neck in our next class)

What are some of your stories?

Well ms.Gibbs when I was in elememtry school , i was a chuby kid back then so my nick name was Rolli Polli!!!!

Ha! That’s so funny Catharine. =]

A nickname I had was snag-a-tooth, this was the name one of my aunts used to call me before she passed away. She called me this because when I was little I didn’t have any front teeth.

My family used to call me Little Bill because they said i looked alot like him with the really low ears. i have tiny, low ears! and i was also called alot of racial things because in my elemantry school, there weren’t many dominican girls.

Losing one’s ‘baby teeth’ is definitely an awkward phase, but I’m glad your aunt was able to make light of it Armani.

Thanks for sharing. =}

Well Kayla, I’m sorry that you were unfortunate enough to have experienced racism so early in life, but from what I can ascertain, it has strengthened your character and you rose above it a kind, good-natured young lady.

Thank you for sharing.

Ms. Gibbs in the 7th and 8th grade a lot of people said i looked a lot like Katt Williams so they would call me cat. When i would walk down the halls, or if I was just doing my work they would shout “MEOW,MEOW”. Then after a while they took it overboard by calling me Kitty off of that 70′s show,Cat Woman, Cat Man Katt Wilson, and even sing the theme song to the Meow Mix commercial. Also, if i fell or got hurt they would laugh and say “It’s okay Cat, you have 9 lives!” It wasn’t funny.

When I was in the 6th grade there we’re two girls that devoled “nick”
names for me which stay with me all though middle school.
Everyone began to call me :

>Hoggie Roll
>Marshmellow
>Cantaloupe

These name never really got on me nerves but since you had the courage to share with the class I wanted to return the favor.

P.S. We did call Frederikia Wilson “Kat” (ha ha ha)

P.S.S. Me and her went to the same school

Well ms. Gibbs I have plenty of nicknames but when I was younger they used to call me Sunny delight and chinky baby because I was so light and when I smiled you weren’t able to see my eyes and looked a little asian.

Ms. Gibbs,

When I was in fifth grade, my friends used to call me a “pink flamingo” and a “giraffe.” In eighth grade, one of my two other friends, She’Vonne or Destanee, I’m not sure who, came up the nickname “Fayefur.” She ‘Vonne also came up with the name “Faye-fur Fame Fefe.” My friend Yhane calls me “Fay Bay” and my friend Darryl calls me “Faye Boosky.” Other nicknames that I have are “Skinny Legs Junior,” “Mikey Face,” “Lil’ Shelah,”"Lil Mikey,” “Lil’ Faye,” “Turkey,” “Fayelicious,” and “Chicken Little.”

-Faye

In middle school people used to call me Gramzz all the time because they always told me that I had an old, wise spirit. I also had the nickname Thumper because I was hyper mostly all the time. Unfortunately, there was one name that always stuck to me regardless of all the nicknames and that was Jigglypuff, the name of the pokemon. Everybody said I looked like her.

we’ll my nickname my uncle calls me is scooby i really dont now why he calls me that but this is pretty much all thanks for listening.

My family calls me “Hollywood” because im always taking picture of myself. And I always have on glasses when im around them. I just laugh I find it funny.

My friend Khyle calls me “ET” because he saids i have long skinny fingers. I don’t think so though.

My other friends call me “Bubba” because I’m always eatting everything I see.

Hi again, well this year I got the nicknames “Pooki-butt” “Honeybuns” or “Honey bunni” I do’t know why but I like them. =] <3
